Biographies of our Highly Trained Physicians

All of our doctors are board certified and are well versed in geriatrics, diabetes, and other diseases, this allows us to be able to treat a large number of patients with various ailments. Dr. Raymond Ufford

Dr. Ufford M.D., FAAFP, CMD, MRO, ISCD, Director

Dr. Raymond C. Ufford graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in August 1971. He continued in graduate school and in March, 1973 received a Master of Science Degree. He was published as an under-graduate student in the Journal of Polymer Science and as a graduate student in the Journal of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Ufford then went to the University of Tennessee Medical College in Memphis receiving his Doctorate of Medicine in July 1976.

Dr. Ufford completed an internship and residency practice in family practice at the Anniston Family Practice Residency Program.

After completing his residency program in 1979 he moved to Crossville beginning his practice as a Public Health Service Officer in the National Health Service Corps. He received the Public Health Service Award of outstanding service to the Crossville area in 1981. He has continued a private practice in DeKalb and Marshall Counties since 1981.

Dr. Ufford completed postgraduate training and required examination to become board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 1979 and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, FAAFP. He has continued to complete 50 hours per year of continuing medical education and pass the periodic exams required by the board to continue to be board certified.

Dr. Ufford completed additional education courses and examination to become certified by the American Medical Directors Association as a Certified Medical Director (CMD) for long term care facilities (nursing homes).

Dr. Ufford completed additional education and examination to become certified by the American Association of Medical Review Officers as a Medical Review Officer (MRO).
Dr. Ufford completed education and examination by The International Society for Clinical Densitometry to become a certified densitometrist in the determination of bone density by Dual x-ray bone densitometry.

Dr. Ufford married Mary Alice Ellingboe in 1971 and together they raised 2 boys and 2 girls. They expect to remain happily married until death parts them. Dr. Ufford has been a Sunday School Bible teacher for 14 years.

Dr. Rommel C. Go

Dr. Rommel C. Go, graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines in April of 1989 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. In April 1993 he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, in the same university at the top 10 % of his class. He was then accepted at the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine Internal Medicine Resident Program at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York where he received the most outstanding 1st and 3rd year resident awards. Dr. Go then did one (1) year of Infectious Diseases clinical fellowship at State University of NY (SUNY) in Brooklyn, NY.

After his training, he joined his wife, Dr. Rabin, and Dr. Ufford in their group practice here in Alabama. They subsequently established Med-Assist Doctors group and recruited doctors to help them expand their practice to cover both out patient and in patient care as well as nursing homes and occupational medicine in Marshall County and DeKalb County.

Dr. Go has been serving the residents of Marshall County since 1999. He is board certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine as an Internal Medicine Specialist and the American Association of Medical Review Officers as a Medical Review Officer (MRO). Dr. Go has admitting privileges at Marshall Medical Center South and is currently the head of the Respiratory Therapy Department. He also admits and does follow up visits for patients at the Albertville and Crossville nursing homes.

In 2009, Dr. Go became one of the few physicians in the Northern Alabama territory to be awarded and recognized in the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama for excellence in the care of diabetic patients. As of March 2011 he is the director for Medical Centers Home Care, an affiliate of Marshall Medical Centers.

Dr. Maria Rabin

Dr. Maria G. Rabin-Go graduated in March 1987 from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Major in Biology. In March 1991, she finished attending Medical School at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery from the same university. She then completed a rotating postgraduate internship at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in April 1992.

In June 1994, she started residency training initially at the Preliminary Medicine Program and went on to the Primary Care Program--Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, which she finished in June 1998. She was board certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine as an Internal Medicine Specialist from 1998-2008. She is presently in the process of board recertification.

Dr. Rabin-Go is the wife of Dr. Rommel Go and was the original recruit of Dr. Raymond Ufford. She has since played an active role in recruiting other doctors to expand their group. At present she is busy taking care of their 3 years old twins, preparing for the American Board of Internal Medicine maintenance of certification exam and at the same time acting as the official Locum Tenens (covering doctor) for the doctors of Med-Assist Doctors Group.

Dr. Larry Johnston graduated, with honors, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in May, 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry and Psychology. He went on to graduate from the University of Alabama School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine Degree in May, 1997. He completed his residency training in Family Practice at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, Birmingham, AL in June, 2000. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Physicians. He, his wife, and four boys reside in the Albertville area.

Dr. Alvin V. Tenchavez

Dr. Alvin Tenchavez graduated class valedictorian and Most Outstanding Young Carolinian of 1988 from the University of San Carlos - Boys' School, Cebu City Philippines in March, 1988. He then went on to pursue his pre-med studies at Velez College, Cebu, Philippines finishing with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology in April, 1992. He was ranked first in the Dean's list for Medical Technology for the school years 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and first in his class. He was also awarded as the Most Outstanding Velezian for school year 1991-1992 after graduating as Batch Valedictorian for all the colleges. Dr. Tenchavez graduated number one in his class from the Cebu Institute of Medicine, Cebu City, Philippines on April 29, 1996. He was awarded the Most Outstanding Graduate of 1996, the Presidential Gold Medal in Microbiology, the Presidential Gold Medal in Preventive and Social Medicine, First Place--Excellence in the Study of Parasitology and Third Place--Excellence in the Study of Gross Anatomy, Histology and Neuroanatomy. During his fourth year of medical school, he was awarded the Sanofi Winthrop Scholarship at the Cebu Institute of Medicine. He completed a post graduate internship in April, 1997 at the Cebu Velez General Hospital, Cebu City, Philippines. In 1998 he served as a staff physician at St. Vincent's General Hospital (Internal Medicine Department), Cebu City, Philippines before moving to the United States in 1999 to do his Internal Medicine residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center--Weill Cornell University, Bronx, New York. He completed his training in 2002 and joined the Med Assist Doctor's Group shortly thereafter.

He has been treating patients from Marshall and DeKalb counties since 2002. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as an Internal Medicine specialist. He is a member of the American College of Physicians--American Society of Internal Medicine. In 2006, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Marshall Medical Center South. In 2007, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama awarded him the Preferred Status for CT Scans, a rare honor for clinical physicians in the area. In 2008, he was accepted into the American Society of Sleep Medicine and remains an active sleep specialist at the Marshall Sleep Disorders Center assisting patients with sleep related pathologies. In January, 2009, Dr. Tenchavez became one of the first physicians in the Northern Alabama territory to be awarded and recognized in the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama for excellence in the care of diabetic patients. He, his wife Sheila, and son Vincent live in the Albertville area.

Dr. Enrico Gasper

Dr. Enrico Gaspar graduated in October, 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines and in July, 1993 he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. He completed a rotating internship at Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Quezon City, Philippines, in April, 1994, a Surgical Residency at Medical Center Manila, Manila, Philippines in November, 1996, and an Internal Medicine Resident at Capitol Medical Center, Quezon City, Philippines inDecember, 1999. He served as a Clinical Physician from May to November, 2000 at Pan Pacific Manila and Archdiocesan Catechetical Ministry Manila, Philippines and completed Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines in April, 2001. He then came to the United States and completed Internal Medicine Resident at Mercy Hospital/State University of New York Buffalo, NY in June, 2002; He served as Chief Resident at the same hospital leaving in June, 2004 to come to Alabama where he works at Marshall Medical Centers South as a Hospitalist.

Dr. Gaspar is board certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine as an Internal Medicine Specialist.

He, his wife, and two children reside in the Albertville area.

Dr. Enrico Gasper

Dr. Francesca Cerimele graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy in July 1997. She then started the Ph D program at the same institution in 1997. She performed most of her research activity for her Ph D at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and New York University in New York. She obtained her Ph D in microbiology and virology from the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy in January 2002. From January 2002 to June 2003 she was a Research fellow in the Department of Dermatology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She then went on to do her Residency in Family Practice at UAB- Huntsville Medical Regional Campus in Huntsville. She was chief resident there from March 2005 to February 2006. She graduated from residency in June 2006 and performed 3 months mini-residency in Faculty Development at the same institution before joining Marshall Medical Center South as a primary care physician in Albertville, AL. Dr. Cerimele then decided to join Med-Assist Doctors Group in October of 2008. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. She has been a great addition to Med-Assist in their effort to provide the best health care in Marshall County with it's growing Hispanic community.
